I remember one of the first FCA events I attended. It was the summer going into my senior year of high school. The speaker emphasized the importance of having your identity in Christ over all other things, including sports. At that time, the speaker was dealing with some injuries and said that his faith was keeping him strong during these trials. I was hit right in the chest. At that time, I was completely lost in my identity as an athlete. My faith was not the priority in my life, and I felt very convicted. Shortly after, I let a friend know that my life was changing for the better. God came crashing back into my life just in Time. Shortly after attending the FCA event, my life was changed by a severe accident. My friends and I decided to make a firework. This firework was placed into a pipe, and it exploded. The shrapnel from the pipe blew through my legs. Thankfully, no one else was injured. I was airlifted to the hospital where I spent 5 nights. The shrapnel cut through my right knee, removing some bones, most of the cartilage, and completely severing the patella tendon. My left ankle was also injured. They were not able to close the wound and I had a shattered tibia. The road to recovery was difficult with many ups and downs including several surgeries, countless therapy sessions, and wound care appointments. Through it all I was able to lean on God. He taught me so much during that trial in my life. I am so blessed He was able to reach me just before I faced a major storm in my life. The way God came back into my life was through FCA.
During that long recovery process, God opened a door for me to continue my education and athletic career at Northwestern College. College was an interesting journey for me. I felt like the prodigal son. God had blessed me so much during my recovery process and I took those blessings and put worldly things at the center of my life. After my first two and a half years of college, I felt empty, I could feel the Lord telling me to come back to Him. At the beginning of my junior year, I had been asked to be an FCA leader. Being a leader at my college and being far from the Lord was one of the ways God came back into my life. Again, I must thank FCA for being an avenue to bring me back to God. The following summer, I was baptized. I graduated from Northwestern with a bachelor’s degree in business administration - finance and a minor in accounting. God blessed my college football career, being a National Champion, Runner-Up, Semifinalist, 3x All-Conference, 2x All-American, and my greatest athletic accomplishment, being a 3x team captain. During my time at college, I worked as an intern for American Investment and Trust and a sales associate at Farm Bureau. At Farm Bureau, I oversaw the Life Insurance Department and became a Register Representative passing my life, health, SIE, and Series 7 exams. Preparing to go into 2023 as a Financial Advisor for Farm Bureau, I was sitting at a meeting with my boss discussing our plans. I had tension in my heart and had been trying to make my plans work in God’s plan for my life. After the meeting, I knew that the Lord was calling me into ministry. I informed my boss, and he connected me with his good friend, an employee for FCA. We set up a meeting to talk about FCA. The Lord worked on my heart during that meeting.
I started off not wanting to join FCA and by the end of the meeting, I said I would join. We were both shocked. God harnessed the teaching ability of sports to help me grow in faith and develop me as a man. He used sports to put great mentors into my life and the impact they have made is immeasurable. The was only possible because faith, sports, and leadership were intertwined. Sports give a great opportunity to bring people to Christ and grow as they pursue Him. FCA is a great resource for the Lord to use to impact coaches and athletes. My life being a testament. I would not be where I am today without FCA. It is said that sports reveal character, I believe having a relationship with Jesus Christ develops character. Bring faith into sports and growth is sure to happen. I ask you consider joining me in ministry by supporting me as we share the good news of Jesus Christ through FCA.
